Spotlight on SQL Server: Collection ‘Processes’ failed : WMI query ‘Win32_process’ failed : Out of memory.

When using Quest Spotlight on SQL Server, Server connections that are running the Windows 2008 R2 operating system may intermittently report WMI query failures with the following error message:

“Collection ‘Processes’ failed : WMI query ‘Win32_process’ failed : Out of memory. [0x80041006]”

This causes the server connection to not show performance data for the server connection and may only resume collecting data once the service has been restarted.

This is due to a known isssue in Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 where the “Win32_Service” WMI class leaks memory.

The hotfix is intended to correct only the problem above and is not available via Windows Update.

This may resolved by requesting the hotifx from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981314 and installing the hotifx which requires a restart to apply:
