So for those who view Tableau Workbooks in Google Chrome, or to be more specific using version 45. You may have recently started to receiving errors similar to the below:
Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘startup’ of undefined
Unexpected error
An unexpected error occurred. If you continue to receive this error please contact your Tableau Server Administrator.
Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier
Uncaught Error: Attempted to use CommandController before creating it.
The cause of the above has been identified as an issue to the way that Tableau Server downloaded JavaScript files to display views is not functioning correctly due to changes in Chrome version 45.
Whilst there is not an updated release of Tableau Server currently available to resolve the issue, there are a number of resolutions/workarounds provided in the knowledge base article. Whilst Option 1 and 3 and purely workarounds, Option 2 provides the ability to update the JavaScript files used by Tableau Server by invoking a script provided by Tableau support (be sure to create a backup and follow the instructions carefully!)
**UPDATE** – The release of Tableau Server 9.1, now provides a resolution to the above symptom.
